giving attention to your "seeds"...
One day during breakfast I’ve found a germinated seed inside an apple. We planted it, it turned into a small plant and it’ still growing. Even though this is the most common thing on earth, I had never paid attention to that: that something grows from a small element which at that initial stage has all in it, waiting to take form. During the quarantine, having a lot of time in hands, I start to observe more closely my environment. Taking time for accomplish everyday tasks and trying to be aware of every moment. I've tried to keep this habit of being in the moment, so I start looking more carefully my surroundings. Walking to the studio I've realised the amount of tree seeds laying on the ground. And one day I’ve found this one: I took it to the studio, and playing with forms I came up with theses earring shapes:
Linking the form and my germinated apple seed "awareness", I decided to make a collection and being explicit, call it “Seeds”: a line of statement earrings, made of stoneware.
Each circle is hand formed. Then they’re fired at 900 degrees Celsius; polished with different tools; glazed in shiny white and fired again at 1280 degrees Celsius to ensure its hardness. Then I assemble them with silver findings.
I’d like my collections to bring a meaning, a thought.
So I’d like those earrings to remind its owner to give a second look to her own “seeds” (ideas) and choose one to make it happen. Giving attention and action to a project, it grows, inevitably... this is nature!
My own personal "seed" was to open my online shop. Alfter soooooo long thinking and planing and finding all plausible excuses not to do so, I've finally took the step. I've planted my seed (quite a work I must say, producing pieces, thinking on how to promote them) and watered it (continuous work of checking what works out and what not). But I'm very happy - happy with the action. Results will come... Have a look and let me know what you think.
So check among your "seeds" and pick one! And start...! And share it here :-) I would love to know it - it's always nicer to feel "accompanied".
See you soon. Be blessed, Paula.
